Every summer, the small village of Fleurance takes on a rather special atmosphere. There are science enthusiasts, curious families, speakers from far and wide... and above all lots of people looking up to the sky.
For over 35 years, the Astronomy Festival brings together scientists, enthusiasts and the curious from all over France for a week dedicated to discovering the sky.
The 2026 edition will take place from 31 July to 7 August 2026.
A week to explore the sky in a different way
What makes the festival so special is its format. Each day offers a multitude of activities: lectures, courses, workshops, observations, games and meetings.
More than 50 scientists and researchers will be on hand throughout the week to share their work and bring science to life, make it tangible and sometimes even surprising.
Highlights include
- the Science Marathon, a full day of lectures on a single theme
- the marathon of transitions, devoted to the major issues facing the world today
- sky-watching evenings, often very popular with visitors
- activities for youngsters in the CHNOPS Village
All in all, over 100 activities in one week, in an atmosphere that is both studious and relaxed.

A festival for the curious and the passionate alike
What often surprises new visitors is the atmosphere of the venue. It's far from a closed or overly technical event.
Here, the conferences are designed to be accessible, even without a scientific background. And between sessions, it's easy to catch up with the speakers and other participants.
It's also this mix of profiles that makes the festival so rich: researchers, families, students, retired people... everyone comes together to share the same curiosity about the universe.
A scientific... but deeply human event
As well as astronomy, the festival also tackles some very topical subjects: climate, ecology, the energy transition and the place of science in society.
The idea is simple: understand the sky to better understand the Earth.
This approach gives the festival a special dimension, both educational and committed, without ever being elitist.
